Trustees ask for community input and data before finalizing AI and ed‑tech policies

Trustees discussed the district's artificial-intelligence policy and requested clearer implementation guidance and community input before final adoption.

President Carrillo and several trustees noted the AI policy had been pulled from action because the version uploaded to the agenda was an older CSBA boilerplate and the board previously approved a version proposed by the district AI work task force. Assistant Superintendent Alonzo said the policy the board passed was proposed by the district's AI task force and EdTech team and that the California Department of Education issued guidance that staff will fold into a forthcoming educational-technology plan. He said guidelines for AI use for students, staff and families have been developed and "we also want to get input from our families" before bringing final guidance back to the board.

Alonzo described plans to convene stakeholders and to produce implementation materials and local benchmark data (STAR assessments) to evaluate instructional technology. "You can look forward to a presentation and some updates and proposed educational technology plan as well as guidelines for AI use for students, staff, and families," he said. Trustees stressed the need for clear metrics and for soliciting input from classified staff and teachers who will use the tools in practice.
