County IT presenter: replacement PCs, subscriptions rising sharply
Summary
An IT presenter told officials the county needs to replace aging computers and cited a jump from about $600 per machine last year to roughly $1,052 in current quotes; staff said many hardware quotes are short-dated and the budget needs to reflect likely increases.

An IT presenter told county officials the department needs to replace the last of its older computers and that hardware prices have climbed significantly since last year. "That same computer right now on our quote is 1000 and $52 because of price increases in hardware, mostly RAM and storage," the presenter said, noting prior purchases near $600 per unit.
The presenter recommended earmarking funds for replacements and said many vendor quotes are only valid for short windows, so the budget should reflect realistic current pricing. Officials discussed how recurring software and service increases (noted elsewhere in the session) compound the capital need for hardware replacements.
