The Surry County Board of Supervisors voted to authorize the county administrator to negotiate and sign a Bowman proposal for design and construction-administration services for the Surry High School well replacement and water-system upgrades. County staff said the well replacement was required by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and that the county has $3.2 million in congressional/EPA-administered grant funding earmarked for the larger project.
Mr. Wade, the planning and community-development director who presented the proposal, told the board the engineering costs for design and construction administration are estimated at $473,693 and that construction costs will be presented once bids are received. "We received grant funding from congressional funds for $3,200,000 to help with the cost of that replacement," Wade said. Stafford staff and several supervisors confirmed Bowman was selected under an existing professional-services contract and that the task order exceeds $50,000, prompting board approval under the county's purchasing policy.
Supervisor Drew moved to approve the proposal and authorize the administrator to sign; the motion passed unanimously.
