Commissioners press for payroll impact analysis before approving clerk pay increases

"It's awfully hard to sit here and propose these kind of increases, not to know what the impact is gonna be 1st and foremost on the budget," one commissioner said, arguing staff should calculate the total dollar impact and how many positions would be affected. Commissioners noted multiple requests across departments and said they could not responsibly set base rates without knowing the budgetary effect.
Members discussed grouping positions (court clerks, executive assistants, paralegals) on a step schedule and debated parity between roles. Commissioners asked staff to return a spreadsheet showing headcount and total annual cost for proposed increases so the court could weigh pay priorities against other budget demands.
