The Parker County Commissioners Court on March 9 authorized a feasibility study to evaluate options for expanding the county sheriff's office, approving up to $7,500 to pay the architect Jacob & Martin.
"We continue to grow at an exponential rate along with the population," Mark Arnett of the sheriff's office told the court, saying the office has outgrown the existing facility and now staffs roughly 140 employees. Tim Hopkins of Jacob & Martin said the proposed study would document renovation versus addition needs, estimate square footage and provide an opinion of probable cost, and the firm quoted a fee not to exceed $7,500.
Commissioners debated funding sources; the sheriff asked that the cost come from program contingency. A motion to pre-approve the feasibility study and allocate $7,500 from contingency carried on a 5-0 voice vote. Court minutes show the next step would be a design phase and, later, a budget request for construction documents and funding if the study recommends that route.
