The Kane County Board of Commissioners on April 14 unanimously approved a UDOT‑funded study to explore a multi‑use trail on State Route 9 between Mt. Carmel Junction and the east gate of Zion National Park.
Commissioner Patty Kubeja introduced the item, telling the board that UDOT has committed "over $350K" to the study. The commission voted in favor with Chair Gwen Brown, Commissioner Kubeja and Commissioner Celeste Meyeres all voting aye.
The study will evaluate a multi‑use corridor for bicyclists and pedestrians along SR‑9, an important connector for tourism and local access into Zion National Park. County staff did not provide an implementation timeline during the meeting; further study findings and project proposals will return to the commission if a construction plan is recommended.
