Commissioners approve several home-occupation special exceptions, table two

The Houston County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously June 2 to approve Special Exception Applications permitting six home-based businesses, while tabling two others for additional review. The approvals — recorded as #2934, #2935, #2937, #2938, #2942 and #2944 — included staff-recommended stipulations and next-step instructions from Chief Building Inspector Tim Andrews.
County Attorney Tom Hall made a blanket clarification for applicants: Board approval of a Special Exception does not override private restrictive covenants. "These restrictive covenants are not superseded by any action taken by the Board of Commissioners," Hall said, advising applicants to check neighborhood covenants before proceeding. Applicants approved were instructed to complete business license applications at the County Annex.
Applications #2936 (non-medical home care) and #2941 (construction business) were tabled. The Board took the action following a public hearing during which applicants were present and no members of the public registered opposition. The approvals and tabling were made on motions recorded in the meeting minutes and carried unanimously.
