Transfer station reports heavy spring cleanup tonnage; recycling contamination a growing problem
Patrick County's transfer station saw large spring-cleanup volumes—February 701 tons, March 957 tons and April 886 tons—and manager Scottie Cassell warned that mixed trash in recycling trailers forces whole bins to be treated as trash, reducing recycling efficiency.

Transfer Station Manager Scottie Cassell reported to the Board that spring cleanup produced significant tonnages at county facilities: February totaled 701 tons; March reached 957 tons; and April recorded 886 tons. Cassell noted additional unweighed loads (198 tons not weighed in during March and 236 tons not weighed in during April) and said daily average incoming trash reached double-digit tons during the spring cleanup.
