Murphy City Council voted on Jan. 6 to deny an application for a 32‑unit townhome site plan at 1000–1010 N. Murphy Road (Oasis Plaza), after extended council discussion and a developer presentation defending the project's compliance with earlier approvals.
Planning staff said the site plan is substantially conforming to a 2021 plan development overlay that allowed townhouse development. Several council members expressed continued concern about density, traffic at the Betsy Lane/N. Murphy Road corner, and proximity of units to a neighboring homeowner. One council member urged staff to compare the proposal to a nearby townhome development and to work with the developer to reduce density.
Developer Saeed Hussain told council the product is "medium density," described four floor plans (including single‑story options for seniors), and said the submission met PD requirements: "I came for the site plan, not the zoning case," he said, noting the project had previously received zoning approval. After returning from executive session, council recalled the item and voted to deny the site plan application; the transcript records at least one opposing vote on the denial.
