Traverse County sets preliminary levy at $8.15 million after 4-1 vote
The Board set a preliminary levy of $8,154,276.16 — a 9.99% increase over 2025 when applying $515,000 in fund balance — after a motion by Commissioner Dwight Nelson that passed 4-1 with Commissioner Kayla Schmidt opposed. Truth in Taxation hearing was set for Dec. 3, 2025.

County Auditor/Treasurer Kit Johnson told the Board the county's tentative levy position and options to reduce the increase. Johnson said the county's levy increase currently sat at 16.94% over 2025, but using $515,000 of fund balance would bring a proposed preliminary levy to $8,154,276.16, a 9.99% increase over 2025.
