Soil & Water Conservation District reports completed projects; joint powers agreement with county approved

Sara Gronfeld, Administrative Manager for the Soil and Water Conservation District, updated the county board on multiple programs and project statuses. She said one SSTS permit application was received, a septic upgrade grant had one project completed and paid with another expected in November, and watershed planning continues for the Bois de Sioux-Mustinka and Upper Minnesota River plans. Gronfeld reported construction of 32 lined waterway outlets had been completed, along with dormant seeding and tree removal work.
Gronfeld also noted state and federal soil-health grant opportunities for cover crops, strip-till and no-till practices and said CRP incentive contract processing is underway. On a motion by Commissioner Chad Metz and a second by Commissioner Dwight Nelson, the board approved the Joint Powers Agreement between Traverse County and the Soil and Water Conservation District unanimously.
