Commissioners table request for 10-year Axon data platform after DA staff explain audit and cost implications

County staff presented a request to authorize a 120-month agreement with Axon Enterprises Inc. for an Axon Justice data platform intended to host the district attorney's office case data and digital evidence. Staff reported the office had accessed Axon through another agency's access for years and that an Axon audit earlier this year identified the DA's office as an unsubscribed user, prompting a subscription requirement or removal of the data.
"They told us earlier this year that we're going to have to either switch to a billing program or have all of our data removed from their servers," said the office manager for the district attorney's office, explaining the office has been unable to find an alternative with affordable annual costs. The office manager told the court Axon offered a subscription model without data caps and that other vendors were quoting more than $150,000 annually.
Commissioners questioned where the cost would sit in county budgets (fund 900 had covered the license previously, staff said, but those federal monies are dwindling) and whether the general fund should assume the cost. Civil legal requested additional review; the court voted to table the contract to allow legal and procurement staff to examine procurement method and fiscal placement. The motion to table was made and carried on the record.
