Committee approves Secretary of State rule codifying existing fee schedules

The Government Operations Committee recommended a rule from the Secretary of State that formalizes existing fees for purchasable databases into administrative rule. Mallory Donovan, the office's legislative and agency affairs coordinator, told legislators the rule “simply places those existing fees into rule,” and that last year’s review found the state’s fees consistent with peer states.

Janet Kleinfelter, director of business and charitable organizations, described a complaint process that allows individuals to seek administrative voiding of a filing when personal information was used without consent. Members asked whether local governments would be affected; Kleinfelter said local governments are not impacted and that local entities can request records from the office without cost. No public comments were received. The committee recorded positive recommendations in both chambers.
