Mendon board adopts Standard Response Protocol and reunification method for school emergency plans

The Mendon Community School District Board of Education voted to adopt the Standard Response Protocol and the Standard Reunification Method for the district's Emergency Operations Plan. The motion was made by Board member DyAnn Steinberger and supported by Board member Sonya Moyle; the vote carried 6 ayes, 0 nays, 1 absent.
Superintendent Leasa Griffith-Mathews said the Michigan State Police and the Office of Safety and Security recommended the protocols (commonly known in-county as the "I Love You Guys" protocol). She said the administrative team and Chief Kline will update the district Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) over the next months, with staff training scheduled before the start of the 2026–27 school year.
The board subsequently approved specific changes to the EOP (building maps, room numbers, staff names) and added the EOP item to the agenda for formal approval. The motions to add the EOP item and to approve the updated EOP were recorded as carried 6–0–1.
