The Crow Wing County Planning Commission voted to amend a previously approved variance for Kevin and Holly Mickelson, recording the deck setback as 86 feet instead of the 89 feet listed in the earlier packet. The change was presented by the applicant’s representative and described by staff as a clarification to a variance already through public hearing earlier this year.
Jim Kramer, representing the Mickelsons, explained the discrepancy in the surveyed setback and asked the board to amend the prior approval so the record matches the actual measurement. Kramer said: "we are approved for a variance to be 89 feet away ... that's actually at 86 feet," and staff confirmed the dwelling remains subject to the same findings of fact used in the original approval. The board moved and seconded the amendment and adopted the change by voice vote.
Because the item was a correction to an earlier decision, staff said no additional public hearing was required and the existing findings of fact were sufficient. The chair confirmed the matter will proceed as an amended record with no further local hearing required.
