Board approves updated conservation-easement process; public comment window extended

Dan Allman, chairman of the Land Preservation Committee, and Cindy Gaspari presented revisions to the township's conservation-easement process, including streamlined steps and an updated evaluation worksheet. Allman said the goal was to avoid language that might scare landowners away and to make the application process clearer: "What we did here was we're looking at any documents that are used by the LPC and evaluating conservation easements and updating them," he said.
Committee members removed or relocated language that had encouraged donations in a way that could be misread as a requirement; they left an option to mention donations later in the process. The board approved the revised document and amended paragraphs 18 and 19 to move the public-comment period from two weeks to four weeks to accommodate the board's monthly meeting schedule. Committee members and supervisors agreed the changes are intended to open dialogue with potential easement donors without creating unintended barriers.
