Shenandoah Valley Foods advances meat‑processing plan; EDA pursues grant support

Nina Fox, Page County director of economic development and tourism, told the Economic Development Authority on April 27 that Shenandoah Valley Foods is continuing work to establish a meat-processing facility at 420 South Third Street in Shenandoah and that she is coordinating with the Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission to apply for an Industrial Revitalization Fund (IRF) grant. The EDA was told a meeting to discuss the IRF application is planned for June.
Dennis Fleming told members that Shenandoah Valley Foods is also moving forward with other potential funding, including loans, while the state budget delays IRF program funding. Fox said a separate group assessing a potential farming project in Page County requested to meet with the agriculture subcommittee to discuss value‑added services, herb development and possible processing services.
Fleming reported that the Virginia Farm Bureau will launch a Saturday farmers market on Main Street in downtown Luray beginning in May, with Susan Corbett overseeing the market. Leslie Currle added that the Luray Downtown Initiative will host a monthly farmers market at the Luray‑Page County Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center beginning in May. The EDA did not take formal action on the meat‑processing project at the April meeting.
