OSU Extension reports record 4‑H enrollment, expanded nutrition and horticulture programs

Ohio State University Extension staff presented a year‑in‑review to the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners on June 2, reporting record participation in youth programming and expanded outreach across nutrition and horticulture initiatives. Extension staff said 1,775 youth participated in Agriculture in the Classroom and Junior Master Gardener activities, and the county's traditional 4‑H program enrolled 336 youth — the highest level since 2008. The presentation named staff including Nancy Lyons and Rebecca Supinger as contacts for program follow‑up.
Extension presenters also reported outcomes for the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), noting 748 youth participants (605 graduates) and 1,069 adult participants (659 graduates), with program reach estimated at 3,398 family members and 96% of participants at or below 186% of the federal poverty level. Staff described recent grant support — including a $6,000 SARE Youth Educator award to expand horticulture programming — and community partnerships that supported the inaugural Local Foods Conference.
