Council hears update on sewer permit renewal and required sampling

A council speaker reported the city is attempting to obtain a "permit by rule," a type of groundwater discharge permit that will formalize current operations the city has carried out since 2011. "So we're trying to get what is called a permit by rule... it allows us to do exactly what we've been doing since 2011," the speaker said, and added that the city has to turn in a considerable amount of sampling data.
The speaker said multiple sample coolers have been prepared and will be sent this week. Council members offered assistance but staff indicated the sampling and submission will proceed with internal staff handling logistics.
