Avon council refines walking-path rules; clarifies owner responsibilities and minimum width

Law Director John Gasior reported that Ordinance No. 14-26 was amended to add the word "repair" so subsection (b) now reads "for the maintenance and repair of any City installed, publicly funded walking path." He said that was the only substantive modification; the third of three readings is scheduled for March 9, 2026.
Planning Coordinator Pam Fechter described Ordinance No. 20-26 as a complementary technical correction to the Planning & Zoning Code, changing the language that previously required paths to "be 8 feet in width" to allow them to "be at least 8 feet in width," providing design flexibility while preserving minimum standards. That ordinance's first reading is scheduled March 9; a public hearing will be held April 13, 2026 at 7:20 p.m.
Council did not take a final vote during the work session and raised no substantive objections during the presentations. The pair of items will return on the March 9 agenda.
