Workers' compensation settlement for Thomas Followell stalled over hold-harmless language
Summary
A previously approved workers' compensation settlement for Thomas Followell has not been completed because his attorney seeks language to "hold harmless for any future medical expenses" related to the injury; the county is awaiting an estimate from its insurance attorney and will delay further action.

The committee was informed that a workers' compensation settlement previously approved for Thomas Followell has not been finalized because Followell’s attorney requested language that would "hold harmless for any future medical expenses that could be related to his injury." Dee Rentmeister said the county asked its insurance attorney to estimate the potential cost implications of such a clause and had not received that information as of the May 19 meeting.
Because the county is awaiting the insurer’s cost estimate, Rentmeister said the committee will withhold any final action on the settlement until the legal and cost implications are clearer. No additional motions or votes on the Followell settlement occurred during the meeting.
