Sheriff reports staffing progress, successful first drone deployment in missing-person search

Sheriff Walker updated the DeWitt County Board on staffing and operational matters April 24. He said a new Dispatch/911 coordinator began March 31 and has implemented improvements in dispatch. An April 3 job fair generated interest from 12–13 people split between dispatch and corrections; several applicants are moving forward in the hiring process.
Walker said one deputy left for the City of Clinton Police Department and the sheriff’s office promoted a current corrections officer to the deputy position; that employee is scheduled to begin law-enforcement training May 4. Walker also reported that deputies used drones for the first time in a missing-person search and located the individual in Heyworth, calling the drones "well worth the money spent."
