Auditor/Treasurer Kit Johnson told the Board that a Wheaton residence had been incorrectly charged twice for its solid-waste assessment and requested reimbursement of $35 for 2024 and $45 for 2025; the Board approved the special assessment abatement (motion by Kayla Schmidt, second by Chad Metz).
Johnson explained a new tax-forfeiture law allowing counties to retain 20% of sale proceeds (after administration costs and special assessments) for acquisition and maintenance of parks; the law would alter the current distribution of proceeds (previously 40% County, 40% School District, 20% City). Commissioners voiced concern about reducing school and city funding and unanimously voted to maintain the current distribution structure (motion by Dwight Nelson, second by Kayla Schmidt). Johnson also discussed Statewide Affordable Housing Aid (SAHA) and requested input on committee appointments to oversee SAHA applications; appointed members included Johnson, Shelly Staebler, Lisa Zahl and Jerrel Olson.
