Wellness foundation reports improved student behavior and expands senior meals

Tammy Verhus, introduced by the mayor as interim executive director of the Rainier Foothills Wellness Foundation, summarized the group's recent program growth and outcomes. "We have served a total of 82 students," Verhus said, noting 62 at Enumclaw High School, nine at Enumclaw Middle School and 11 at Thunder Mountain. She told council the program's behavioral-intervention metric improved from 0.69 to 1.016, which she described as a roughly 32 percent improvement, and said the cohort's average GPA rose slightly year over year.
Verhus also described the foundation's senior hot-meals program, saying it currently serves '66 seniors' with deliveries three days per week and that staff prepare 'about 400 meals prepared from scratch each week.' She thanked the city for past support and asked council and staff to refer questions to her or the foundation. The presentation prompted no formal action; council moved on to other agenda items after asking whether there were questions.
