Engineer: Pinehurst grate work near completion; storm revealed system capacity limits
Summary
District engineer said MRI’s Pinehurst valley grate replacement is about 80% complete and reported that Tropical Storm Debbie brought nearly 8 inches of rain in some locations, exceeding road design and stressing the stormwater system though it continued to flow.
Charlie Krebs, District Engineer, told the board that the MRI project to replace the Pinehurst valley gutter inlet grates is about "80% completed" and that he will follow up on the schedule for asphalt patching. He also reported on storm impacts: "Parts of the community received almost 8” of rain in two or three days and the roads are designed for 5½” of rain over a 24-hour period." Mr. Krebs said the system reached capacity but flowed unobstructed during Tropical Storm Debbie.
Mr. Krebs suggested adding a drainage connection to E1-A so water could bypass pipes and inlets and flow directly into the lake. A resident reported standing water appearing to come up through a slab and causing mold; Mr. Krebs said he did not believe that standing water was the cause because other units did not report similar problems and he asked Mr. Long to address the matter on a future agenda.
The board asked staff to confirm whether MRI’s recent work on a water line at Glen Eagles involved any road or curb damage and to update the report as available.
