Van Alstyne chamber breakfast spotlights downtown projects and Comprehensive Plan implementation

The Van Alstyne Chamber of Commerce hosted a July breakfast at Grayson College where Economic Development and Planning leaders outlined a string of downtown projects and the next steps for implementing the city's Comprehensive Plan 2035. Joy Grisham, introduced as executive director of the Economic Development Commission and the Community Development Commission, said the city is seeing broad interest from property owners and incoming businesses.
"So we have a lot of downtown projects," Grisham said, describing building renovations and several firms preparing expansions or relocations to the downtown area. Dr. John Spies, chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission, told attendees that planning and zoning vets proposals thoroughly before they move to city council and that the implementation phase of the comprehensive plan will require changes to codes and ordinances.
