Corrections director reports headcount, violence decline after tablets and long‑range replacement plans

The Corrections Director told commissioners the department’s mission is to provide safe, secure and humane detention while preparing people for reentry. The director reported a current headcount of 5,906 inmates, said the department has 2,718 employees and that CHS has 475 full‑time employees. Leadership described alternatives to incarceration (pretrial services with 894 offenders and 874 on monitored release) and said the December issuance of in‑cell tablets corresponded with a 48% decrease in inmate violence from January through June.
