Commission awards Mountain View culvert replacement to low bidder

The Kane County Commission voted June 9 to award the Mountain View culvert replacement contract to the low bidder, identified in the meeting as Intelex. Roads director Bert Harris told commissioners the low bid was "$295,009.47" as transcribed and said the county has already purchased the box culverts needed for the work.
Harris said engineers Jones DeMille performed the bid evaluation and noted an error in the bidder’s map that the contractor was given a chance to correct. "They were certain that they could do the project for the bid amount," Harris said, and county staff clarified that no contingency requests would be accepted later. Chair moved to accept the award and the motion passed with commissioners voting in favor.
The project will upsize several culverts on Mountain View Drive to reduce recurrent flooding prior to repaving. Commissioners and staff framed the award as a step toward improving and maintaining road surface quality in the area.
