Planning commissioner outlines timeline for Onancock comprehensive plan update

Casey Greer of the Planning Commission presented progress on a new Onancock comprehensive plan and said state law requires municipalities to update such plans on a five-year cycle. Greer said the planning commission has drafted chapters organized around four sections, is finishing a housing chapter and preparing maps and tables, and plans to assemble a full draft by October with editing in November and public review before a first reading by council in December.
Greer told council the commission has received more than 60 public comments so far and that some town records and data are hard to locate; she recommended the town improve records retention and data access to inform plan chapters such as housing, transportation and water. "The state of Virginia mandates that all local governments prepare a comprehensive plan and update it every 5 years," Greer said. She said the commission will return in September with more data points, maps and a PowerPoint presentation for broader public review.
