Sumner County board frames 10–20 year solid-waste plan, seeks vendor data

The Sumner County Solid Waste Advisory Board opened a discussion of a proposed 10–20 year solid-waste plan, with the chair laying out three core components: commercial and industrial recycling for businesses, long-term residential land-waste approaches for unincorporated areas, and identification of additional rail-accessible processing sites.

"One of the things we've said is obviously having a 10 a 10 to 20 year plan, and and we kinda broke it down into some bite sized elements we were gonna look at," the Chair said, describing a phased approach that would pilot commercial programs first and study residential options and infrastructure needs later. The board emphasized that solutions will vary across municipalities and the unincorporated county, and that mixed models (drop-off sites plus vendor services) may be needed.

Members agreed to collect comparative data from nearby municipalities and vendors to understand costs and operational models before taking procurement steps. The Chair asked staff to compile notes from prior presentations (including Gallatin's public-works briefing) and to arrange vendor briefings for the next meeting. The board took no formal policy vote on the plan during this session.
