County launches free 'Honor Rewards' card program for local veterans

DeWitt County Clerk & Recorder Kari Harris announced a new, no-cost program Thursday aimed at showing appreciation for local veterans. "The program is called Honor Rewards, and it is a program to show thanks to local Veterans," Harris said, explaining veterans can sign up online at honorrewards.com, via the Clerk & Recorder website, or in person at her office.
Harris said participating businesses can register to offer discounts or dollar-off promotions and will receive a door or window sticker to indicate participation. She told the board that veterans who register will receive an honors card in the mail in one to two weeks and that the program already includes participation from other Illinois counties and several states. Harris added that when signing up one required field asks where a veteran's DD-214 is recorded; veterans unsure where their DD-214 is recorded can bring it to her office to have it recorded free of charge and then list DeWitt County as the recording location. Harris said the county incurs no cost because Fidlar Technologies provides the program free to counties that use them as a vendor.
