Council members agreed they needed a shorter, more accessible budget summary on the city website and a variance report highlighting departments that were materially over or under budget.
S1 said a monthly variance report "would be amazing" and emphasized that the report should note why a line item was over (for example, a busted park pipe or timing for training). Members suggested the report show only categories with variances and a short explanation so the council and public can decide whether to request a deeper review.
The council asked staff to include the variance summary in regular agenda packets and to build a standalone web page or executive summary so residents can find the information without scrolling through long packets.
