Health department posts balanced audit, notes grant volatility

The presenter said the department achieved another "perfect financial audit" and closed the fiscal year with revenues over expenses of $265,000.
"We had another perfect financial audit in fiscal year 25, our 15th consecutive year of revenues over expenses," the public health director said. She reported total revenues of $8,911,000 and total expenses of $8,646,000, and noted about 84% of revenue came from federal and state sources with 4% local appropriations. The presenter also described midyear grant-reduction disruptions that were navigated to close the year on the positive side.
Commissioners queried whether local appropriations could be increased to bolster stability; the presenter said there had not been a local-request increase since 2010 and that the department tries to secure grants when available.
