Council presses developer on conservation easements and hamlet‑size protections

Several council members expressed frustration that permanent conservation lags despite earlier commitments. One council member said they had been told the city had only 113 acres ‘‘in preservation’’ while staff and the applicant reported about 300 acres "in process" toward conservation easements. The discrepancy prompted repeated requests for an updated map showing which parcels are already protected in ink and which are under baseline documentation or easement negotiation.

Staff said many open parcels are preserved at the time of plat approval and that conservation easements are used to protect land against future zoning changes. The applicant said they are actively working with baseline documentation providers and that they currently have roughly 300 acres in process for conservation easements and about 118 acres already recorded under easement; staff agreed to provide maps and easement copies to council.
