Custer County approves deputy pay raises, authorizes COPS grant application

The board also approved applying for a COPS hiring grant to fund a three-year share of positions such as a school resource officer and a community service officer; the federal program was described as covering 75% of salary costs for the grant period while the county covers 25%. "All we're doing is renewing that for the next pack of three years," a sheriff representative said. Commissioners debated timing and payroll mechanics before approving the raises and the application.
