Custer County cuts landfill slash/deadfall fee to $5 per cubic yard

The commissioners voted to lower the county's landfill fee for slash and deadfall from $10 per cubic yard to $5 per cubic yard after a workshop discussion and a motion on the July 29 agenda. A commissioner who introduced the motion noted the county still incurs costs to receive and process slash, so the reduction is intended to ease the burden on residents while staff investigates more efficient handling options.

During discussion, commissioners and staff described possible operational changes to offset revenue loss, including repositioning a chipper, saving wood chips for later reuse and partnering with a commercial hauler that converts material to fertilizer. "We discussed several ways to do that, and we're gonna look into some final figuring out how to do that so it's more convenient to the customer," a commissioner said. The motion was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
