Resident urges county intervention after roadside spraying kills trees

During the public-comment period, Richard Landis of Scenic Drive told the Board of Supervisors he discovered about 100 trees along the roadside dying after utility-line herbicide spraying by AEP and urged the county to intervene.
"I have no idea what they sprayed," Landis said, describing a lack of MSDS notifications and saying the spray likely drifts onto private property and into wells. He raised worries about livestock and a fire hazard during drought conditions, and said he had contacted multiple state agencies before reaching AEP's president, who called back and promised to send someone to inspect his property.
County supervisors discussed options for outreach and suggested the county contact AEP to request pre-notification or a "do-not-spray" list for affected property owners. One supervisor asked staff to consider reaching out to AEP and to provide residents with a more direct contact to opt out or be notified in advance of spraying operations.
