Dr. Forsey introduced the information item and framed Rancho's work as more than a program: "I saw Rancho move from a program to a school where you're serving kids as a school," he said, noting the school's role as an integrated resource for other schools in the district.
Mr. Eng described the visit's emphasis on newcomer supports and student voice, saying the morning included "speed dating conversations with students" in which students explained their college choices and demonstrated communication skills. Rancho leadership responded that the program depends on staff and parent involvement. Dr. Tung thanked staff and community partners, singling out the Chinese Parent Booster Club: "I want to give a shout out to the Chinese Parent Booster Club for just supporting us, not only just financially with some donations, but also with manpower to service the food so that we could have the opportunity to engage with our families," he said.
Board members noted Rancho's potential to serve as a laboratory for practices the district could scale to serve students who need different approaches. No formal actions were taken; the discussion was presented as information to the board.
