VDOT: primary/secondary roads cleared; Amelia sidewalk accepted into state system

Justin Bachain, assistant residency administrator for maintenance and business with VDOT, updated the board on winter operations and maintenance milestones.
Bachain said the primary and secondary network was “substantially complete” and crews had moved to smaller service roads, subdivision locations and shoulder stone work. He advised the board VDOT will take cores to investigate a washboard/heaving condition on Route 153 near the bridge at Deep Creek and the turn lane at Krell's, and said crews plan to wedge and asphalt the edge line in spring.
On a local project, Bachain reported the Amelia sidewalk project was completed and accepted into the state system for maintenance. He asked for patience as crews prepare for another expected weather event and noted National Weather Service accumulation estimates were still pending.
