District reports on testing changes, CAPTI rollout and free safety mapping for first responders

District leaders updated the board on assessment and safety changes affecting students and staff.
Elementary Principal Beert reported that CAPTI testing for 4th and 5th graders began last week and is expected to finish by the end of the month; staff will monitor student responses and evaluate the assessment's value, particularly for some special education students. The secondary principal reported that the Minnesota Department of Education is implementing changes to MCA and alternate assessments, including new testing tools, revised reporting timelines and strengthened testing-room security procedures.
On safety, the board heard that the South Central Minnesota Emergency Communications Board will provide secure digital building maps to first responders at no cost to the district. Trustees also were told about planned updates to Policy 516 – Student Medication to permit additional EpiPens through a Minnesota Department of Health grant.
