Pitman updates water, sewer and solid-waste operations; shutoffs scheduled Sept. 23
Summary
Public-works reported meter upgrades, a Roosevelt Ave. water-main project, completed service tie-ins and that water shutoffs will begin Sept. 23 unless residents make payment arrangements; the August solid-waste and recycling tonnages and costs were also summarized.
The Water & Sewer Department reported routine and project work between Aug. 13 and Sept. 6, including 55 mark-out requests, five plunged sewer stoppages, well maintenance, water sampling, meter reads, 10 meter-head upgrades, three meter-body upgrades, the start of a Roosevelt Ave. water-main project and completed water-service tie-ins on Vassar Ave. Council materials stated that water shutoffs would begin Sept. 23 and residents were asked to make payments or arrange payment plans by Sept. 20.
The Solid Waste and Recycling report for August listed tonnages and costs: 24 loads to Wheelabrator (309.92 tons) at $86.18/ton for $26,708.91; two loads to Gloucester County Landfill (25.33 tons) for $2,182.94; one load of street sweeping to SCIA (5.31 tons) for $79.65; and total August costs of $28,971.50 (340.56 tons). Recycling figures included 17 single-stream loads (70.11 tons) costing $4,473.99 and metal sales showing a profit ($441.45); mulch/brush and e-waste tonnages were also recorded.
