Trustees authorized submitting a TEA application to delay full teacher certification requirements to the 2029/2030 school year and approved a district plan using recruitment, mentoring and individualized certification timelines to support roughly a dozen staff working toward certification.

Interim Superintendent Gwen Gilliam presented the district's request to delay certain TEA teacher certification deadlines and explained the rationale: the state is tightening certification requirements and the district currently has approximately 12 staff working in alternate or DOI programs toward certification. She said the district seeks additional time to recruit and mentor candidates and proposed using the 2029/2030 school year as the compliance target.
