DPW reports strong pavement condition and ongoing bridge work; outlines 2026 priorities

Deputy Commissioner Ryan McGuire briefed the committee: Orange County's Pavement Condition Index averaged 89/100, DPW resurfaced roughly 21½ miles in 2025, the bridge program average condition is 5.2/7, and DPW listed multiple bridge, culvert and dam projects planned for 2026.

Deputy Commissioner Ryan McGuire presented an extensive Roads and Bridges update, saying the Department of Public Works employs about 208 people countywide with roughly 100–120 working in roads and bridges at peak times. He reported that Orange County maintains 302 centerline miles of roadway, 147 highway bridges and 12 dams, and that the county's current average County Road Pavement Condition Index (PCI) is "89 out of 100, which is an excellent rating on the scale."
