Chairwoman Genesis Ramos said the Housing Task Force agreed to prioritize a Countywide Housing Needs Assessment and Action Plan as the first step in coordinating Orange County housing policy. The meeting, which began at 3:02 p.m., included an outside briefing from the Pace University Land Use Law Center and Ulster County planning staff on strategies used in other counties.
Presenters emphasized that local data and municipal participation are essential to tailor solutions. The committee "agreed that a Countywide Housing Needs Assessment and Action Plan should be the first step," a move intended to update existing studies and create a roadmap for subsidization, stabilization and production strategies. The task force discussed how dedicated funding, technical assistance and collaboration between the Legislature and the County Executive's Office could advance recommendations.
