The Elko County Fire Board approved an annual rate adjustment for apparatus and equipment to align district rates with local, state and federal reimbursement schedules.
Chief Matt Peterson explained the reimbursement process for mutual-aid and out-of-jurisdiction deployments, saying the district is typically reimbursed for engine hours and personnel costs through state billing processes such as those handled by the Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF). "Sometimes it has been as fast as 30 days. Sometimes it's been as long as 90 to 100," Peterson said of reimbursement turnaround. He added that FEMA reimbursements tend to take longer and that federal assistance grants (FMAGs) are often 75 percent reimbursed by the feds.
A commissioner moved to approve the rate adjustment and the board adopted the motion by voice vote. No changes to staffing or budget appropriations were made during the approval; the adjustment updates documentation to seek timely reimbursement when the district is deployed to incidents.
