The Elko County Fire Board voted to accept the department's 2024 end-of-year report, a 35-page document Chief Matt Peterson said outlines last year's goals, accomplishments and funding sources.
Chief Matt Peterson highlighted a new partnership with the Elko County School District's Fire Tech program in Spring Creek, saying the classroom-based program enrolled about 17 students and provided qualifications such as wildland incident command and CPR; "out of our 1st year that we did it last year we had about 20 students that took our courses and we hired 10 of them as seasonals," he said. Commissioners thanked staff and moved to accept the report. The board then voted in favor of the motion.
The report also includes station-by-station breakdowns, operations division updates, wildland risk reduction and an outline of funding sources; Chief Peterson said he was asked to add three additional pages at the request of a commissioner. No supplemental budget action was taken at the meeting.
