Elko County commissioners appoint two to library board after debate over complaints

Cassie Antonucci, Elko County Library Director, told commissioners the library board had reviewed applications and recommended the reappointment of Rebecca Hockley and Robbie Nicoll based on their experience and history with library programming. “The library board met last night and did review the applications, and they voted to recommend reappointment for both Rebecca Hockley and Robbie Nicoll, based on their history with the library board, their proven track record, and as well as their experience both working in libraries and the education field,” Antonucci said.
Tammy Kreekcraft Dickinson, president of the library board, urged commissioners to attend board meetings before making staffing changes and defended the board’s selections, saying the board favored candidates with extensive library backgrounds. Commissioner (speaker 4) said he had received “three independent complaints” and argued the board needed new members to produce different results; he moved to appoint Hockley and Amber Hill. Another commissioner said he supported fresh eyes but noted he had seconded the motion without suggesting the library was failing.
