Commissioners approve $3.18 million engineering amendment for northwest sanitary sewer project

The Lorain County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 13 approved Amendment No. 1 to the consulting agreement with K.E. McCartney & Associates, authorizing up to $3,179,200 for civil engineering on the Quarry Road Sanitary Trunk Sewer extension (also called the Northwest Lorain County Sanitary Sewer).
Commissioner David J. Moore said the board expects construction bidding to follow design work and that the project is tied to a larger H2Ohio water-quality award. “So, today is a great day for Lorain County as a whole and this will create jobs,” Moore said. The board noted the county has additional matching funds available and aims to bid work in about a year with potential ground-breaking phases beginning in 2027–2029 for portions of the system and plant operations by 2031–2032, per discussion during the meeting.
The amendment (Resolution No. 26-113) funds civil engineering and construction documents; commissioners approved the amendment by roll call (Ayes: Moore and Riddell; Absent: Gallagher). The county presented the sewer as both an economic-development and a water-quality compliance project that could reduce future costs for communities facing stricter EPA treatment standards.
