Krista Jones, Community Corrections manager, briefed the board on intake, supervised release (parole), probation and reentry work. Jones said supervised release caseloads are trending upward under the 2023 Minnesota Rehabilitation and Reinvestment Act (MRRA), and that the department has trained additional agents to prepare for more supervised-release work. She described specialty caseloads: domestic-violence agents average about 45–50 cases, drug caseloads average 50–60, and enhanced-court programs remain capped by state rules.
Jones said the department increased cognitive-behavioral interventions from two groups to eight and reported stronger in-jail programming ties, including an alternatives-to-incarceration program shared with neighboring counties. Commissioners asked about the impact of planned state prison closures and whether state funding will accompany potential increases in supervised-release caseloads; Jones said the department is monitoring figures and training staff to be resilient to changes.
