Fire and parking access concerns cloud mosque site plan review

Deputy Fire Chief Dan Greenfield told the Planning Board converting the site from residential to assembly use raises access and safety constraints. "The FD needs 20 feet unobstructed clearance," Greenfield said, and he warned that parking on both sides of the street would not allow the department to bring apparatus into the site.
Board members said the roadway geometry and one-way circulation increase the importance of off-street parking and turning-radius verification. Chair Rob Maidman emphasized the operational concern and asked engineers to explore alternatives for spaces and road access before the next hearing. Deputy Chief Greenfield said he will provide turning-radius information to the project engineers to assess whether fire apparatus can safely access the site.
